The giant movie theater in the United States, AMC Entertainment, had already announced that Bitcoin would allow you to buy your movie ticket very soon, but that’s not all. It seems that at least 3 other cryptocurrencies can be used as payment methods and that non-fungible tokens (NFT) will also soon be part of the party.
A choice between 4 cryptos for your movie ticket
To give an idea of the importance of AMC Entertainment in the movie industry in the United States, let’s remember that the company owns no less than 8,000 theaters and 620 cinemas spread across the country.
Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Entertainment, seems ready to welcome cryptocurrencies in his vast network of cinemas. After announcing in early August that his company would accept Bitcoin (BTC), three more cryptos have been added to the list: Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
“Crypto-enthusiasts: you probably know that AMC has announced that we will accept Bitcoin for online ticket payments by the end of 2021. I can confirm today that when we do. We also plan to similarly accept Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.”
NFTs also on the agenda?
So in the very next few months, another step in the global adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies will be taken.
But in addition to serving as a means of payment and currency, cryptos could also land in another form at AMC Entertainment: that of NFTs.
Indeed, during an interview given to the program Fast Money of the channel CNBC, Adam Aron mentioned the possibility for his company to dive into the “trend of the moment” that are the NFT. He imagines, for example, movie tickets being turned into NFTs, if customers want to immortalize the viewing of a landmark movie, or a year’s worth of visits to reminisce about the movies they’ve seen during that time.
Even a universal project like Bitcoin can hardly replace an existing system (however obsolete) overnight. This adoption is happening little by little every day, almost imperceptibly. Of course, courageous political decisions, such as the establishment of Bitcoin as a legal tender in El Salvador, are accelerating the movement and prompting multinationals like McDonald’s and Starbucks to finally accept cryptos.
