Satoshi Nakamoto unveiled to the public – At least his statue for lack of an identity! The creator of Bitcoin (BTC) now has his place in a Hungarian park that houses statues of other tech greats.
The father of Bitcoin without or with millions of faces
The inauguration of the statue in tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto in Hungary was held on September 16, 2021, at Graphisoft Park in the country’s capital. This technology and science park open to the public is known to also house an effigy of Apple founder Steve Jobs.
Local journalists and Hungarian residents attended the event. The sculpture was made by Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly, following the sketches they made and unveiled in May 2021.
Nakamoto is depicted as a figure with a bronze bust, a reflective face and no features in reference to his anonymity. He is wearing a hoodie with the Bitcoin logo. The concept of a mirrored face allows the viewer to see his or her reflection. In other words, everyone can know themselves, expressing the idea that “we are all Satoshi.
The co-founder of the project and editor-in-chief at Kripto Akademia, András Győrfi, praised the work of the anonymous father of Bitcoin:
“Whatever it is, Bitcoin creates value, and especially the technology behind Bitcoin, the blockchain, creates value.”
The project was funded by Kripto Akademia, Mr. Coin, the Blockchain Hungary association, and Blockchain Budapest.
Bitcoin founder: decentralization, courage, and anonymity
For entrepreneur András Győrfi, Nakamoto represents an “iconic figure” who transformed the world of finance. The person concerned disappeared from the surface of the world in April 2011, keeping his identity secret.
The CEO of the Hungarian cryptocurrency exchange Shinrai, Debreczeni Barnabás, also spoke at the ceremony and stressed the importance of the decentralized financial system:
“Satoshi Nakamoto created an independent currency, free of intermediaries, which gave people the power of financial sovereignty […] We erected this statue to remind us that courage is a virtue. We must continue to dream big.”
Where does Satoshi Nakamoto’s baby stand today? It has reached an all-time high around $67,000, and even managed a coup by becoming a legal tender in El Salvador.
