The Detroit rapper recently purchased a non-fungible token (NFT) from the Bored Ape Yacht Club for $450,000. The artwork was originally created based on the rapper’s outfit at one of his concerts.
Eminem joins the BAYC club
The famous rapper from Detroit offered himself a non-fungible token (NFT) representing a Bored Ape in his likeness during the day of December 30 for the sum of $452,000, or 123.45 ETH at the time of purchase.
The Bored Ape #9055 joins the collection of NFTs of the artist visible on his page OpenSea, the largest trading platform of virtual works to collect.
Eminem is not at his first try with NFTs: in March, a double of him appeared in a sketch explaining to an American treasurer what NFTs were and their promising future. In April, he announced the launch of his own collection of collectible tokens (visible here), one of which sold for $100,000.
The rapper now proudly displays his Bored Ape as a profile picture on the social network Twitter.
Rather comically, the artist behind the Bored Ape #9055 had published a tweet dated November 2 saying “I keep thinking Eminem will buy my BoredApeYC one day” :
It is the digital agency SixWeb3 that said it helped the rapper to complete the transaction, nicknaming in passing the NFT in “EminApe”, because indeed, this one represents the rapper with accessories he wore during a concert. The company had also previously collaborated with the American rap collective Wu-Tang Clan.
