The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) project continues to expand its influence. After having tried its hand in other areas than non-fungible tokens (NFT), the brand will be the subject of a trilogy of short films. And these will be produced by the Coinbase exchange platform.
Bored Apes on the big screen
As a result of the Bored Apes, the short films will have a participatory element. BAYC holders can submit their NFT with a short description and a made-up biography to appear in the film. A Hollywood casting director will then review the applications to see which characters will be included.
It will be a trilogy called “The Degen Trilogy”. The first short film is expected to be released at the NFT.NYC event, which will take place June 20-23 in New York City.
Coinbase will produce the films representing the Bored Apes
The Bored Apes’ attraction to new communication channels is not entirely a surprise. But what is more unexpected is that the American exchange Coinbase will produce the films:
The exchange recently launched a media division, and the Bored Apes film project will be one of the first initiatives in this direction. All this will be headed by William Swann, the director of entertainment and culture. He confirmed to our fellow CoinDesk members that the choice of BAYC was symbolic:
“You can think of it as a love letter to the NFT technology that has enabled such creative liberation for artists. […] We really see [BAYC] as our cardinal point in the NFT ecosystem. They’ve created such a massive, engaged community.”
