After introducing tips in Bitcoin (BTC), the social network Twitter is extending its service to Ether (ETH). This new feature shows Twitter’s willingness to turn to crypto-currencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Twitter introduces tips in Ether (ETH)
Social network Twitter has announced that its users can now add Ethereum addresses as a mobile tipping option.
The Twitter Tips feature was first launched last September. It allows users to link their payment details to third-party services such as Venmo or Cash App.
Incidentally, in this initiative, Twitter had integrated the ability to tip in Bitcoin (BTC) via the Lightning Network on mobile.
“Like Twitter, cryptocurrencies operate without global barriers. We’re excited to integrate Ethereum in addition to Bitcoin payments into Tips, allowing more people to participate in the digital economy,”
said a company spokesperson.
Thus, this news is a testament to Twitter’s willingness to integrate cryptocurrencies into its social network.
Twitter is opening up to blockchain-related technologies
In addition to developing cryptocurrency tip functionality, Twitter has also turned to non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Indeed, the social network recently launched profile picture verification in the form of NFTs. However, this new feature is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers.
Users can connect their wallet and select any NFTs to add to their Twitter profile.
Finally, with these different experiences, Twitter has decided to create a team dedicated to blockchain to decentralize the social network.
The objective for the latter is first of all to look at Twitter’s future strategy regarding cryptocurrencies and to explore ways of decentralization.
