Another big boss flaunting his love of cryptocurrencies… The CEO of e-commerce giant Shopify, Tobi Lütke, has bought his own .eth domain name, and is now using a CryptoPunk as his profile picture.
Shopify CEO buys his .eth domain name
The move was noted by the cryptosphere earlier this week. Shopify’s CEO is now called Tobi.eth on Twitter, and he owns the associated domain name. As reported by the Ethereum Name Service bot, this cost Tobi Lütke 30 ETH, or more than $121,000 at the time of the sale.
Another sign of Tobi Lütke’s interest in cryptocurrencies, and Ethereum in particular, is his profile picture. It now depicts NFT Cryptopunk number 1719, who bears a definite resemblance to the Shopify CEO.
Crypto domain names find their buyers
As a reminder, .eth domain names are stored on the Ethereum blockchain as NFTs. Particularly in vogue at the moment, they are reaching significant prices, just like non-fungible tokens such as profile pictures. Other projects of this type exist, including Unstoppable Domains, which recently integrated Polygon’s scalability solution (MATIC).
The arrival of the CEO of Shopify in the field is in any case not sudden. He had announced his interest in Ethereum and ERC-20s earlier this year. And his company had started to take over NFT sales on Ethereum and Flow last summer. In addition, a partnership with CoinPayments has allowed Shopify to accept cryptocurrencies since 2020.
