The Polygon (MATIC) teams will join Disney’s support program alongside five other projects, including three related to Web3. The latter will benefit from the entertainment giant’s expertise in order to accelerate their development.
Polygon will benefit from Disney’s expertise
The Polygon sidechain will benefit from the “Disney Accelerator” program for its development. Indeed, the entertainment giant has announced the projects that would have the chance to benefit from a personalized support and we find several Web3 projects in the list.
Disney’s initiative, through its gas pedal, is to provide leverage to projects in growth phase. These projects benefit from the advice of the management team as well as a dedicated mentor. It’s a summer-long process that culminates in a demo day at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.
We don’t know how much of Polygon’s projects may have to do with Disney. However, there is a good chance that it falls under experiments around gaming, the metaverse and non-fungible tokens (NFT). The Polygon Studio division is indeed specialized in this branch of our ecosystem.
This makes even more sense as Disney says that this year’s selection of projects focuses precisely on augmented reality, artificial intelligence and NFTs.
The Walt Disney Company in support of startups
Bonnie Rosen, executive director of the Disney Accelerator program, expressed pride in the department she leads:
“For nearly a century, Disney has been at the forefront of using technology to create the entertainment experiences of the future. The Disney Accelerator is thrilled to be part of that legacy, and with our new class of companies, we look forward to continuing our commitment to innovation […].”
For example, the program accompanied Epic Games in a previous session. On this class of 6 projects, we also find three other startups closely related to Web 3.0.
Obsess allows the creation of virtual stores in 3D. This is particularly applicable for the development of NFTs in the metaverse. FlickPlay allows to create immersive NFTs experiences by linking them to real world geographical locations. Finally, the Lockervese project is presented as a Web3 platform for content creators.
Technologies related to NFTs and the metaverse are still in their infancy. However, the interest shown in them by players such as Disney is encouraging regarding the development potential of these innovations in the future.
