Eric Adams, the current frontrunner for the 2021 New York City mayoral election in the Democratic primary, is pro-crypto and he’s saying it loud and clear. Message well received by all lovers of the number one cryptocurrency.
A Bitcoin Center coming soon
“I will promise you that in a year … you will see a totally different city! “
Eric Adams
This statement by Eric Adams during his election night speech on Monday is not exactly a first in the political world. What is a bit more modern, however, is what follows:
“We’re going to take businesses with us. We’re going to become the center of life sciences, the center of cyber security, the center of autonomous cars, drones, the center of Bitcoin. “
A speech cheered by his supporters as you can see in this video. For the specific statement on Bitcoin, go directly to 38 minutes and 16 seconds :
A battle won in advance?
Eric Adams is a retired police officer who has been on a meteoric rise in the polls after former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, a longtime Bitcoin supporter, dropped out of the New York City mayoral race earlier this week with preliminary data showing poor results.
The candidate wants to turn New York City into a tech hub if he wins the mayoral race, which he currently leads with nearly 32 percent of the vote, according to data from The New York Times and The Block. Final results are expected to be announced the week of July 12. In the meantime, Eric Adams is currently reportedly 75,000 votes ahead of his closest rival, Maya Wiley.
In his speech, the New York City mayoral contender did not explain how he planned to make his city the center of Bitcoin. But he seems to want to take inspiration from his counterpart Francis Suarez, the current mayor of Miami, who also wants to become the leading city for cryptocurrencies. In particular, he states:
“Miami, you had your chance. We will bring back our businesses! “
As China continues to crack down on cryptocurrency regulation, various players are speaking out to (finally) speak positively about cryptocurrencies for what they are. A sign of freedom, alternative and progress. Like the mayor of Miami, the candidate for mayor of New York or even the president of El Salvador, who continues to make us dream on Twitter, this is ultimately a beautiful proof of open-mindedness and a step further towards a wider democratization of our cryptos.
