Boson (BOSON) connects metavers to the real world, allowing holders of NFTs from these virtual universes to exchange these digital assets into physical goods. The protocol will deploy a virtual sales space in Decentraland (LAND).
Boson Portal and Decentraland: a real-world twin for NFTs
The Boson protocol will launch in a partnership with Decentraland, the Boson Portal, a virtual mall-like space that will allow users of the metaverse to explore virtual assets in the metaverse, and eventually receive their physical counterparts.
Boson is a decentralized trading protocol that aims to give users of a metaverse the ability to exchange the NFTs contained within it for similar or equivalent physical assets in the real world.
The co-founder of Boson Portal, Justin Banon, defended this ambition of the protocol to offer this parity digital good / physical good, during an interview with the media Cointelegraph :
“Today, it’s normal for humans to have a digital shadow, like a LinkedIn or Twitter profile. And in a few years, it will also be normal for physical and fashion items to have a digital twin.”
Plenty of room for development: burn, Boson 2.0, future collaborations
Boson Portal also allows its users to participate in quests to earn deep discounts on items in the form of NFTs offered by a brand’s store. These NFT rewards can also be purchased at full price, if players do not wish to participate in the quest.
Boson has a utility token, the BOSON, and a DAO, the dCommerce. The community that runs the latter reinvests its earnings to develop the ecosystem. They can also use the earnings to burn BOSON tokens.
As a decentralized protocol, the project is disintermediated unlike traditional marketplaces:
“The key is that there is no middleman, no Amazon or eBay in the middle. These are all smart contracts coded from game theory. That means there is no one taking a cut of the middle.”
Banon also mentioned the current development of a Boson 2.0 that allows brands to connect an e-commerce system like Shopify to the protocol, and sell directly into the metaverse. In addition, the protocol has ambitions to forge other partnerships with other virtual environments and even with traditional video games, such as Fortnite.
Decentraland is not at its first inter-protocol partnership contributing to the structural increase of the value of its virtual lands. It previously hosted the Atari casino on its crypto-lands.
