Money is often too expensive, and apparently so are monkey NFTs! That’s what the international star thought, as she stopped a purchase she had planned to make, due to the cost being too high.
A star’s simian collection
Madonna, the global pop music icon, loves NFTs, especially the monkey-headed ones from the Bored Ape collection.
Happy owner of the 4988, a monkey with a leather cap on an orange background, which is traded around 75 ETH (about 130 000$), the singer wants to make her collection grow.
And to do so, she has set her sights on the 3756, a magnificent (or not) monkey with multicolored teeth and psychedelic fur.
Why this one specifically? The singer explained recently.
“I was determined to get an Ape and I was very specific about what I wanted: the Ape with a leather motorcycle cap and multicolored teeth. I was told that it was inspired by me, that it was inspired by me, and that it was bought by a woman who is a fan of mine. She was going to sell it to me.”

Unfortunately, this monkey may have absolutely nothing to do with the singer. The Yuga Labs team behind the collection reacted to this statement by suggesting that the star was imagining things.
“The monkeys are not necessarily designed or modeled after anyone in particular. The Yuga Labs team loves when people see themselves in certain monkeys. The S&M hat is a favorite feature of the collection’s founders; they love all things punk rock. Madonna helped popularize this style, which the founders are fans of.”

Spend money, but not too much
Even if you’re a multi-millionaire, a monkey drawing is still a monkey drawing, and the wallet has its limits!
The famous macaque that caught the eye of the singer is far too expensive for her. Indeed, the seller asks for more than 800 ETH, that is to say nearly 1 400 000$.
The reason of this price? The rarity of the bug! Ranked 123rd in terms of rarity, against 3754 on the one already in possession of the star, this monkey is one of the rarest, and therefore potentially one of the most expensive.
Will the star negotiate the price, or simply give up and move on? No doubt, we’ll find out soon enough! With an estimated fortune of nearly $600 million, Madonna can afford a star’s whim if she feels the price will continue to rise in the future.
However, the singer is not just a collector! Having become the creator of an NFT series in which she poses naked and gives life to “creation” in a very science fiction universe, the star has raised more than 310 ETH for charity thanks to the sale of 3 of her creations.
Whether you’re a fan or not of this collection of apes that trade at prices sometimes unimaginable to the average person, the fact that stars like Madonna are interested in it helps to highlight our ecosystem. Is it done in the right way? That’s another debate.
