The story of the fall of FTX and its CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, is looking more and more like a movie script. In fact, the author of the best-seller “The Big Short”, Michael Lewis, spent several months with the ex-billionaire and is working on a book whose ending is already “dramatic and surprising”.
A book about the FTX case?
Are you familiar with the story of “The Big Short,” the best-selling book by Michael Lewis, which had an exceptionally successful movie adaptation in 2015? It tells the story of a few people who anticipated the great crisis of 2008 by making a huge downside bet, amassing several hundred million dollars.
We learned this information several weeks ago already, Michael Lewis has just spent the last six months “traveling with Sam Bankman-Fried and interviewing him”. This is in any case what reveals a letter from the Creative Artists Agency that circulates in Hollywood, shared by the media The Ankler:
“His childhood, early success on Wall Street, altruism and creation of a crypto empire that catapulted him into the ranks of the world’s richest people in record time seemed more than enough for a book by Michael Lewis. […] The events of the past week offered a surprise and dramatic ending to the story.”
In other words, the best-selling author would be holding in his hands one of the most incredible stories of the financial world. Initially planned to tell the story of the rise of a very young multi-billionaire at the head of a crypto-currency empire, with a profile as atypical as it is endearing, this book will ultimately deal with his huge scam and his descent into hell.
Apple positions itself to buy the rights
Barely announced, and not even written yet, the book by Michael Lewis is already at the heart of many negotiations on the Hollywood side. The media Deadline claims that Apple is very close to buying the film rights to adapt it into a feature film.
The giant streaming service plans to place a “seven-figure” amount, in order to prevent Netflix or Amazon to beat him. Indeed, since the fall of the FTX platform and the hallucinating revelations on the malpractices of Sam Bankman-Fried, the case has generated a lot of interest.
For the moment, nothing has been put down on paper but Michael Lewis has the content and the ingredients to create an explosive cocktail that should make this story even more striking than it already is. As for the movie adaptation, it will have to wait a few years.
