Google Cloud is launching a new team dedicated to blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The goal is to provide the infrastructure and technologies needed to support the possibilities offered by blockchain.
A new team dedicated to blockchain
Google Cloud is increasingly interested in decentralized technologies and has announced the creation of a team to focus on building blockchain-based products and services.
Going forward, the team will undertake a number of short and long-term initiatives to support companies in the crypto-blockchain industry including:
- Participate in node validation and on-chain governance with selected partners;
- Help developers and users host their nodes on the industry’s cleanest cloud, supporting their environmental initiatives;
- Host multiple BigQuery datasets including the complete transaction history of Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dash, Litecoin (LTC), Zcash (ZEC), Theta Network (THETA), Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR), Band Protocol (BAND), Polygon (MATIC), XRP and Dogecoin (DOGE).
Another claim is that Google is exploring solutions to enable Google Cloud customers to make payments in cryptocurrencies. We can read in the announcement:
“As we grow our team, we are also exploring opportunities to enable Google Cloud customers to send to receive payments in cryptocurrencies.”
The new team will be led by Rohit Bhat, who serves as director of financial markets and cryptocurrencies at Google Cloud.
Google is riding the blockchain wave
In their announcement, Google explains that the blockchain industry has evolved considerably and that as a technology company, they also want to be part of this revolution. They say they are “inspired” by everything that has been achieved so far in the field of decentralized technologies.
“We’re inspired by the work our customers have already done in the cryptocurrency space, and we look forward to providing the infrastructure and technologies to support the opportunities that blockchain offers.”
Google Cloud already earns steady revenue by providing services to several blockchain projects through agreements with Hedera, Dapper Labs’ Blockchain Flow (FLOW) and the Theta Network.
