The adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is proceeding slowly, but unstoppably. While Elon Musk is still waiting a bit before allowing Bitcoin to buy his Tesla cars again, a major U.S. movie theater chain is taking the plunge, and will soon accept satoshis to pay for tickets.
Thousands of movie theaters to accept BTC
Although Bitcoin is often considered a good safe haven against fiat currency inflation (or even hyperinflation, as in Venezuela), it was first and foremost conceived as a decentralized currency and payment network by Satoshi Nakamoto.
A new step in this direction will be taken by AMC Entertainment, a giant of movie theaters in the United States. Founded in 1920 with just one movie theater, this large group now has nearly 8,000 theaters and 620 theaters across the United States.
As Bitcoinist reports, AMC Entertainment’s CEO – Adam Aron – announced during a quarterly earnings call that its theaters will soon support bitcoin payments.
Satoshi ticket purchases by the end of 2021
AMC Entertainment, which is otherwise a publicly traded company on the Chicago Stock Exchange, will thus put in place all the necessary IT and blockchain logistics to accept Bitcoin by the end of this year 2021.
With more than 22 million moviegoers in its theaters during the second quarter of the year, this is an important audience that will now have this payment alternative for their movie tickets.
The only drawback is that Bitcoin purchases can only be made online for the time being, and there is no mention of its implementation in physical movie theaters.
The more time passes, the more Bitcoin and cryptos are accepted on massive scales. Just last week, it was Project Dash that announced DASH payments in 155,000 businesses in the United States.
