Among the universes with which NFTs are associated, video games are booming. This time, it’s Axie Infinity that’s leading the charts in terms of weekly and monthly sales. It leads in its game against NBA Top Shot.
Axie Infinity leads the NFT game
According to CryptoSlam, Axie Infinity recorded $25.45 million in sales during the week of June 14. The NFT game takes the lead in the sector, beating out Dapper Labs’ NBA Top Shot. Dapper Labs’ NBA Top Shot was the leader in this field in early 2021. NBA Top Shot sales still reached $13.8 million during that week, with a 7% increase over the previous week.
In one month, Axie Infinity sales jumped nearly 396% to $100 million, with 52,251 buyers. Over the same period, Bored Ape Yacht Club follows Axie Infinity in the rankings, with 222.10 percent growth, $45 million in sales and 7,058 buyers.
Axie’s popularity began to take off in November 2021, with daily transfers rising from 500 to over 9,000. These numbers then slowed down in December 2020 and January 2021, before picking up again after that.
Stunning numbers and stories
Sky Mavis, the company behind Axie Infinity, announced in a May 11 release that it had raised $7.5 million to develop the project. The studio has embarked on an aggressive recruitment policy, aiming to recruit the best talent in the video game industry.
The excitement of the game and the earning potential it offers its players is illustrated by anecdotes in virtual and physical real estate, which are picked up by crypto and blockchain media. The purchase of 9 parcels of virtual land on Axie Infinity for 888.25 ETH, or $1,500,000 at the time, by the player Flyer Falcon, is one of those stories that testify to the growing interest of players-investors in this universe.
And the game not only entertains its users, but also fills the wallets of the best. On May 1st, the young Filipino John Aaron Ramos announced on Facebook the purchase of 2 houses in his country thanks to his earnings on Axie Infinity.
Axies have come a long way since their launch 3 years ago. The game is one of the pioneers of NFTs, just like CryptoPunks which is celebrating its fourth anniversary this year.
