Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Entertainment, has announced that his theaters will now support Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB). The two memecoins join Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies that were already accepted by AMC as an online payment method.
Dogecoin and Shiba Inu as AMC’s ticket to entry
AMC Entertainment, the world’s largest movie theater chain with more than 970 theaters internationally, is now accepting Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) as a payment method on its website.
The information came directly from AMC CEO Adam Aron’s Twitter account:
“Your responses may well break the internet, given your obvious enthusiasm and interest in cryptocurrencies. As promised, AMC Theatres is now accepting Dogecoin and Shiba Inu for online payments! Special mention to BitPay for helping us make this possible.”
AMC, which had initially opened up to Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Litecoin (LTC) already thanks to BitPay, will now therefore support DOGE and SHIB.
However, this is hardly surprising news since last October, Adam Eron had already published a poll on his Twitter account to gauge the public’s interest in supporting DOGE for his theaters. With over 81% “Yes” votes out of 153,000 total votes, it was clear that the theater chain was going to look into it.
AMC will probably not stop there. Indeed, the company had announced that it wanted to create its own cryptocurrency last October, just a month before releasing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in partnership with Sony for the release of the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
